Even if someone thinks "this is just the flu", common sense makes us realize millions of others are going to panic.

I cannot imagine fighting over TP...we are not far from being savages. Waiting to see what happens if this gets serious.....Like the lock down in Italy.

Reminds me of Seinfeld's "Do you have a square to spare?" episode.

I just now ordered TP from a Costco on line. Their cheap Kirkland brand and another on sale this week are sold out.

A premium brand for a few cents more was still available so I ordered two boxes of it. I don’t consider this hoarding* as I typically buy that amount approximately once a year.

Two day shipping was a $6 bargain to me as gas to Costco is close to five bucks and 90 minutes of unenjoyable time in traffic and cashier lineups.

* my take on TP is that the people doing panic buying and hoarding are the same idiots who cannot plan ahead and make last minute “runs” to the store and pick up the smallest pack regularly.

'Food fight' 'Toilet paper fight. If the isn't any TP to be had, buy a 'Bucket of Towels' at Harbor Freight and wipe your bum with them...lol Now if you practice a 'Farmers squat', you don't get your buns dirty anyway (unless it's a blower poop)....

This is JUST the flu. Maybe a little more virulent, but it is JUST the flu. The problem is the panic from the sheep. This is NOT some horrible disease, this is JUST the flu. We are starting to suffer from the fear, the stock market is tanking, the price of oil is dropping like a rock. Russia won't cut production to keep oil from dropping, THEY want us to falter, They want oil to tank, they want to put the shale industry out of business. They are our enemies. If we could just resist the fear and continue to travel, continue to go to meetings and sporting events and continue on with our lives, we would all be fine. We don't panic for flu, why are we panicking for this? We are killing ourselves. Stop hoarding toilet paper. stop Panicking.

James, I hope you're right, but we will see in a month from now where its going:eek:

Im not making any predictions, but I am taking precautions...

Motor fuel is getting pretty cheap lately. I just filled both my bulk diesel tanks with offroad diesel at $1.70 a gallon. Took 721 gallons plus a bottle of biocide in each. I like to keep the 'red slime' under control.:D

Unfortunately, this is just a rehearsal for a real pandemic like the 1918 flu outbreak. People are so mobile these days, it will be bad when/if it comes.
If people are in such a panic now, it will really be bad when a new strain of flu or whatever you want to call it begins to form. People are just so used to
doing whatever they want, and not be inconvenienced, it will be tough. During WWII, people came together and sacrificed for the good of all. Not sure
how well it would go over these days. As Spock said (or something close) "The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the one."

Hope it never happens, and we find the magic pill to cure so many diseases some day, but in the meantime we need to act reasonable and be smart.

I don't see the World having a Pandemic of the magnitude of 100 years ago. News of the problem arrives before the problem does now. Wasn't that way then. No one knew what to do. The problem spread ahead of the education. The World simply doesn't live like that anymore. Of course there are pockets of humanity that aren't that informed. But they also aren't that exposed.

IMHO, you are not qualified to report "this is just the flu". You currently have every right to live and do as you think is best for you and your family. In some countries, those "rights" are being suspended....even here in the US some are being placed into forced quarantine.

I hope you are right, but what if you are not? Being prepared is not for everyone....but then some of us not posting concerns about using up our last roll of TP....LOL

My point being...we cannot control the idiotic actions of others... they have rights to. If someone wants 500 rolls of TP or 500 lbs of rice or whatever...it will affect the supply of essential goods for others. We cannot control the panic of others, but we can be prepared to function while others panic.

I recall a couple hurricane threads here on TBN in the past and several folks in hurricane land said the first things to go from the shelves were generators, bottled water, and toilet paper.

Up here, every time it snows, there's a run on bread and milk (milk sandwiches sound awful).

Also been noted that in just about every large natural disaster like hurricanes and blizzards, grocery stores in cities start running out of food because it all has to be trucked in daily. Usually takes about 3 days to clear the shelves if the supply chain is interrupted.

Better to have necessities on hand before an event happens than to try and stock up once an event is apparent.

Why are some of your afraid of this virus? What is it about this virus that put fear into you? Is it the number of deaths? What is it? Where is the logic of being afraid of a virus that has killed less than 4000 people worldwide, and less than 3 dozen in our country? I can tell you what there is to be afraid of , and that is FEAR. This is the real killer. It is starting to kill our economy, and a lot more people are going to be impacted by this than the virus.

You all talk of "being prepared". Prepared for what? For a bunch of rampaging toilet paper hoarders, prepared for a crashing economy? These are the real things to be afraid of, There is nothing to fear but fear itself. What if you caught the Covid-19 virus today? I suspect there are probably several on this forum that may even have it right now. Anyone have the sniffles, some chest congestion, a cough? I bet some of us do, including myself.

Fear is the real enemy here, not this virus. Fear, and what we do as fearful animals to destroy ourselves. Don't be a fearful animal. Show courage in the face a virus threat that has killed far far less than almost anything you can name. Certainly far far less than "regular" flu or colds that lead to pneumonia and death in the aged and infirm and compromised. Panic is NEVER a good solution to ANY problem. Calm rational thought and logic are solutions to problems, not panic. And logic tells me that Covid-19 is another type of flu that is slightly different than what we have seen before. So what? What is the problem? We get new strains of flu every year. Some more virulent than others.

If you want a sobering case of reality look at the line of the number of cases and the line of the number of recovery's. The line of new cases is nearly flat. The line of recoveries is climbing at almost 45 degrees. What does that tell you? It tells me that soon this "thing" will be over. With the number of new cases being small and the number of recoveries large.

No, now is not the time for fear, now is the time for calm rational thought and logic.

Why are some schools closing? Will someone please tell me the logic in closing a school in fear of Covid 19 virus? Please spell it out for me. Don't spare the words.

Many years ago a fellow I knew was in the hospital in a semi-private room. He said the nurse takes a thermometer out of the other guy's bum, puts it in some liquid, then asks the fellow open his mouth, check his temperature. He said wait! You just removed it from that guy's behind!!!
She said don't worry, this is a 50% alcohol solution.
He said yea...but that was 100% a**hole!!!

James K0UA I fell the same as you do.

This thread is about the Corona Virus, not putting each other down for preparing or laughing it off.

The way I see it, the more people that PREPARE AHEAD OF TIME means that there will be more resources left for those that wait until the last moment, in any disaster.:D:D:D

I guess some people wont get it, until they got it...

I agree with you. Dying from COVID-19 is not that high of a risk but its side effects on economies both internationally and locally is starting to concern me.

After the news out of Russia today most in North America knows people working in the oil patches from MX to the Arctic Circle fully understand $30 a barrel oil prices will again move production off shore and take out the producers already facing bankruptcy before the COVID-19 panic.

Companies like Nissan being on a death watch list today was talking about more profit declines due to COVID-19. No visible signs of having a management team I expect is the real problem at Nissan but like a man fighting cancer and in urgent need of a triple by-pass COVID-19 could become that proverbial straw.

No one seems to be talking about the serious mental health declines that is more wide spread than a few chicks fighting over TP down under. A preacher about my age was talking to me recently about the mental health declines in churches across the region becoming more apparent and was wondering why and that was before the COVID-19 24/7 news. Mental health is a factor in physical health it seems and we may be seeing the fear of COVID-19 effects on our health for years to come even if we are never near the virus.

Cancer: Does mental health influence a persons cancer risks?

Some people will die we know for sure. Some companies will die as well but for a few it will lead to new business opportunities.

Yes TP is highly rated today unlike in the outhouse days perhaps. How many can go a year without feed for their animals or without their medical supplies from China, etc?

The global economy is starting to become real to more more humans. How many production lines are slowed or stopped world wide waiting for one or two items from China today?

I think the mental health impact of COVID-19 may be huge and more negative than the facts support. The stock market does NOT run on business facts but on human emotions.
