Sooner or later. See this rant ..."Im awaiting permission from the federal government to allow for my testing, even after my physician and county health professional ordered it. " ... by a nurse who is ill and quarantined, after caring for a Coronavirus patient. She doesn't meet the criteria to qualify for the test because she was wearing proper protective gear.

Related - has the reported number of people tested on that cruise ship increased? Last I saw was 21 cases found out of a total 47 (?) tested.

Statement by a quarantined nurse from a northern California Kaiser facility (pdf)

I heard it stated, but do not know. That all would be tested.

This is not "just the flu". My mom has Multiple Myeloma and she is able to get her flu shot to protect herself from the flu. She can NOT get a shot to protect herself from covid19. She is in the highest risk category if she contracts this bug and that means death as a side effect. No, not just the flu.

As communities begin to feel the impact of the coronavirus (COVID-19), I want to share with you the steps we're taking at Harbor Freight Tools to help protect the health and safety of our customers and associates, which is always our top priority.

We're closely monitoring local and national reports on the evolving impact of COVID-19 and, based on guidance from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), the World Health Organization and applicable public health agencies, we've developed plans and established a task force that will allow us to respond timely and appropriately.

Our housekeeping and sanitization efforts in our stores have been greatly expanded. We're frequently disinfecting often-touched surfaces such as door handles, countertops, keypads, restroom surfaces, shopping carts and baskets. We're asking all of our associates (and we urge everyone) to follow the CDC guidelines to prevent the spread of the infection.

We feel deeply for those who have been affected. Thankfully, as of now, we're not aware of any associate contracting COVID-19. But we have implemented guidelines that instruct any associate who may develop symptoms or come into contact with infected individuals to stay home and follow the CDC's instructions. And impacted associates will be compensated for their missed work hours.

At this time, all of our stores are open for business during their regular hours to meet the needs of our customers. If we become aware of any condition in any store that would make it unsafe, please rest assured that we'll close the store until those conditions have been addressed.

Again, the health and safety of our customers and associates are our top priority and we're committed to doing our part to help keep you safe.

Thank you,

Eric Smidt

I heard it stated "‘Anybody who wants a test gets a test". What you heard implies it's mandatory, what I heard implies it's voluntary. Time will tell. :confused3:

Grand Princess passengers disembarking at Port of Oakland... no one can recall the last time a cruise ship called in Oakland.

Several 737 aircrafts staging Oakland Northfield to transport Canadians home...

I think troopships for VN embarked from there. Certainly materiel, and I think troops too. Anyhow its now a pure container port.

I'm not sure I will stop at my usual HF, the one by Travis Blvd offramp. Yep that Travis, the quarantine AFB.

One of the earliest diagnosed cases was someone in that community who had no known contact with anyone on-base, quarantined or staff.

Alameda Naval Air (Decommissioned) was considered but concerns over sufficient draft ruled out that option.

Until we are talking about people in my age group 70-90.

From: Scientists Warn About Dangerous "Tipping Point" Where Covid-19 Goes From Mild To Deadly | Zero Hedge

Even healthy younger adults have succumbed to the virus, including Dr. Li Wenliang, the 34-year-old ophthalmologist who was one of the first to warn about the coronavirus in Wuhan. He died after receiving antibodies, antivirals, antibiotics, oxygen and having his blood pumped through an artificial lung. Scientists have theorized that some people have more of the distinctly shaped protein receptors in their respiratory epithelial cells that the virus targets.

^^^^^ I guess I should say "I stand corrected" :confused2: It's people my age that are more susceptible, well I think myself is safe, I've had so many shot's and what not back in the 60's that I think I could survive a nuclear fall out. ;)

You might be on to something. My dad, who also was given free shots by Uncle Sam in 1968, rarely catches even a cold. Although he's had his share of health problems after he got home from Vietnam, I often think he might outlive all of us.

If I was Erik, I'd be more worried about the mountains of Chinese cardboard and pallets than someone or an associate picking up something in the store itself. Was at HF last week and glanced in the back and there was a huge pile of the stuff, I presume waiting for a dumpster. No one seems to have a handle on how long the germs live...

Whatever. I'm not feeling ill anyway.

The trend of spread is fairly obvious at this point. If you're surrounded by red dots, it's already there. Not unlike chicken pox. lol.

According to the City of Austin Texas, events with 2,500 or more people are prohibited unless organizers are able to assure Austin Public Health that mitigation plans for infectious diseases are in place. Each event will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.

And I haven't a clue what "mitigation plans for infectious diseases" are acceptable.
