Gale I am on the same page as you regarding mental health comments.

Smile, do something goofy. Laugh. Be kind. There’s always someone having a WAY tougher time than you.

Our local Costco is now out of toilet paper, which presents a problem for my company, since that is where we buy it. I'm not a hoarder by any means, but we ordered a few additional cases online just for the simple reason that I can't keep 25 employees working without toilet paper. Sometimes the stupidest things can disrupt a supply chain.

This is a must read and understand article about why COVID-19 is causing a panic in the medical community today. We fully understand with the rate of new viruses we see these days that one will arrive one day that can do more than just kill a few people and shut down a few car companies due to the lack of parts.

One that reads about advanced lost civilizations being discovered in Central and South America that were since over grown by jungles went missing for some reason(s). Humans are fragile beings that can be wiped out quickly. The stress at the top is great because of trend line in new disease caused by evolution that really can not be predicted because we do not clearly understand how and why microbes do this. Risks that the human eye can not see are easy to overlook.

Wife and I "lost" a couple of close friends a few years ago. They were going on and on about an endangered dolphin, ex-friends live in Florida. I asked why fill your head with garbage? If you can take action and do something about it that's fantastic.
They've had lots of health problems also.
I believe the mass hysteria is because people in general are afraid of death.
Personally, I've had a good life. I just want happiness and no drama for my time remaining!
These are interesting statics in the US, yet tobacco and alcohol sales are still high:

Why are some schools closing? Will someone please tell me the logic in closing a school in fear of Covid 19 virus? Please spell it out for me. Don't spare the words.

Schools close around here whenever there is a flu outbreak as well.

While I am sort of in the camp that says, hey it just another virus... I am near 'ground zero' where 20 people have died. Most of them from one nursing home, elderly and in poor health. That nursing home had 120 people in it three weeks ago. Now 55. Healthcare workers testing positive. It isn't hysteria here, but people are definitely trying to take precautions. It isn't contained... can't wait for warmer weather to hopefully kill this thing.

My daughter spent the weekend visiting my wife's Dad who is still in Harborview (Seattle) recovering from car accident almost 4 weeks ago.. we stayed home and took care of grand daughter and also got a visit from oldest daughter and 2 of her kids...

Daughter that spent weekend in Seattle loved it. She did a bit of shopping and said the traffic was light, crowds were light, she parked close to the market (is it Pike market?).. she had clorox wipes with her and made sure to use common sense.. I don't expect her to have the CV.

...One thing that the public may not comprehend is just who will staff the hospitals if all the employees are sent home to self quarantine as has already happened in a nearby sister facility where an entire unit was sent home...
Did everyone notice this post yesterday? We haven't seen the peak effect of Coronavirus yet.

Well, like most articles there are several truth, and several untruths stated in the article. The 2% death rate in an example of one of the untruths. There is no way they can know at this point what the death rate is. The next untruth is that everyone is at risk. That is just not true. Children seem to have zero risk. healthy people seem to have very low risks. The elderly and immune compromised (yes that heavily includes smokers) have much higher risks. Yes the long incubation period and the VERY mild symptoms in the majority of people make it much easier to spread this disease.

Again Closing schools is INSANE. We should be closing nursing homes. NO MORE visitors to nursing homes at this point in time. Every nursing home in the country should be under quarantine at this time. These people are under risk of death. Not school children.

All nursing home in this country should be under quarantine as of this minute. NO visitors in no one out. This is life and death for people in nursing homes. The proof is your home there in Kirkland being cleaned out. I doubt you have seen the last death there either. Schools, no. I can't thing of a single reason to close schools. Children in the USA dead from Covid-19 0.0. Children worldwide killed from Covid -19? As far as we know 0.0.

So from your what you said in previous posts you are now saying that nursing homes should be closed even though this is JUST THE FLU?

I am not being inconsistent. IT IS just the flu for the majority of people. It is less than that for children. It very well may be a death sentence for old compromised immunity people. By the way, getting the flu is a death sentence for old, immune compromised people too. This is the type of thing that people die from. They get pneumonia in their lungs and they can't fight it off and they die. Sometimes medical intervention will save them sometimes not.

Yes I have. And my wish would be that all health care providers and first responders get the respect they deserve.

Until we are talking about people in my age group 70-90.

Schools close so the kids don't bring it, and redistribute the virus to others, who take it home. They do the same for bad flu seasons. Hospitals also lock down and don't allow visitors during heavy flu seasons, so I could understand nursing homes could do the same. Especially since the elderly are more likely to have flu shots during normal years, and are better protected compared to this.

On a side note, they just confirmed 3 positive tests in NE Ohio this afternoon. There will be many more to come now that they are getting the tests out and looking for hot spots.

Leave the schools open. The little infected kids will spread it among each other, to the school staff, etc... then they all go home and all the adults in the houses get it but don't know it. Then they spread it around. Then two weeks later everyone starts showing symptoms. Too late at that point. Hope the adults are healthy enough to fight it off.

Like I mentioned earlier, they close public schools during flu outbreaks, so this would be no different.

This is still the best site to come to your own conclusions. Notice how China is almost leveled off in new confirmed cases and the recovery curve is going to intersect with it pretty soon. Notice how other locations are still ramping up.

Country example of Russia. 17 confirmed cases. 14 still have it, 3 recovered 0 deaths. They must be doing something right with their borders to be right next to China and have so few.

Mainland China : 80,735 confirmed cases. 58,728 recovered, 3,120 deaths. 7/8 of the cases, 3/4 of the deaths. And of course the majority of all recovered. Mainly because they have had this outbreak for months, and didn't bother to tell the rest of the world it was coming their way. Thanks ChiComs.
