I have NO IDEA what kind of otters are here, but we do see their tracks here and there. In the photos I posted*, you could see they or he was sliding along.

*my photos are never that good.

In North America there are only 2 types. River Otters (most common) can live in fresh or saltwater areas. Sea otters are salt water only, they are the ones that float on their backs and raft together. River Otters go way inland from water. Sea otters rarely go inland very far. Weasel family.

Here is one of the white squirrels we have. They are the gray type but we have some white ones in our neighborhood. In the lower right, you can see a certain dogs ear.

A few shots from St. Joe., Michigan earlier this afternoon.

Only a bit of ice. It's normally about 1/4 mile thick here this time of year. There were a lot of people fishing from shore and the piers today. Coho!



This is beach replenishment sand. They had a dredge out on the other side of the lighthouse for a few months last fall and pumped it over here, about a mile away. A dozer spread it out as it flushed from the pipe.


This is typical sand movement over the winter. The wind blows it into drifts just like snow.


This is the St. Joseph River mouth. Note the brown silty water discharging into the less turbid lake water. The wind was strong from the SE so the water discharges into the lake and the brown water then moves north today. The wind was so strong it was blowing waves upstream in the river about 1/2 a mile.
