Rake Convert Rake to Rubber Blade??

I was toying with the idea of adding a piece of horse mat to my rake to use as a snow blade for next winter. Has anyone tried such a thing or think of any reason why it won't work out? I thought I could just use a few "U" bolts or something along those lines to secure it. I would use a piece of mat about 16" so it will curl up the tines a bit. It would only be for 6" or less of snow as I would be using a 3pt snow blower for heavier snowfalls. Sounds good to me, in theory anyway! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Do you have the Woods Estate rake with wheels? Your idea sounds good to me - except when I think of how many u-bolts you'd need - I guess it would be cut and try?

Instead of u bolts use 2 pieces of strap iron and bolt thru both of them w/ mat and tines between.
could even put 1 set at top and 1 set lower to let mat flex to tine radius.

Yes, it's a Wood Estate rake. (See photo) Model number is LRC60 and I was charged $695 for it. It works great!

Tim,
Have you tried it without the gauge wheels?? Do the gauge wheels make a big difference when finish grading (less humps,etc.)??

I did try it without the wheels. It seems to dig too deep and was very hard to get a nice level finish. I'll be spreading 20 yards of loam in a few weeks with it. With the wheels set a bit lower then now, it should do a great job.
