If you have a cd drive on the computer, take a look at Ubuntu "liveCd", boot up in Linux and see if it can read the disks. Sometimes it works.. I tossed all my old tools just recently (Partition magic, rescue tools, etc).. I've pulled files off doing this when the boot disk wouldn't boot, but seems you've already tried just reading the disk on another computer.. never know, sometimes LiveCD allows a rescue..
