I currently have a B21 and a Zero Turn Mower with Kubota Z722 engine. I just finished up a lot of land leveling and trenching projects with my b21.
I have several acres that are pretty hilly in parts and would like to consolidate equipment. I will be tilling and maintaining gardens, moving dirt, mowing several hilly acres, installing and maintaining fences, and planting trees. What would a good recommendation for these type of projects.

I am not sure what you are asking? You want a single piece of equipment?

You already have an optional setup. Nothing can compare to to to the B21 in its size class and you can’t beat ZTRs in mowing. Trading for sometime like a B series Kubota would be a huge downgrade.

In my world you have just outlinded the requirements to have all kinds of equipment and spend a ton of money.

Not much useful information in your opening post.

How much land do you intend to work? Kitchen garden or commercial garden? Equipment budget?

B21 is a 4,000 pound, 21-horsepower T-L-B, produced 2001 - 2007.
I presume a direct predecessor to today's B26.

Are you ready to give up the Backhoe for a new tractor/loader for more Three Point Hitch oriented applications?

Kubota tractors/loaders with 3,700 pounds to 4,500 pounds bare tractor weight and horsepower from 37-horsepower to 60-horsepower are the simply equipped MX series and the de Luxe L3560 through L6060 'Grand L' series. Starting price with Loader ~~$27,000.

I mowed woodland trails yesterday with a heavy-duty Land Pride Rotary Cutter behind my open station L3560.
Hot, dirty work. A mowing implement behind a tractor is difficult to maneuver and slower relative to a Zero Turn mower.

You will regret getting rid of your zero turn.

I agree with many. You already have the best setup. Keep the ZTR for mowing no matter what. If you want to get rid of the B21 you better be done with tight spaces and BH work. That said I would keep what you have.

We went through the same process many years ago. We had a HUGE tractor loader with box blade and brush hog. And a lawn tractor. Snow blowers, too. Once we got the large tasks out of the way with the large tractor loader, we downsized to a properly sized maintenance machine for the lands we own, and the ballparks and church we were involved with. One main goal was to eliminate as many machines as possible. While dedicated machines are generally better at a given task, like a ZTR mower, there are machines that can do many tasks very well.

If you get rid of the ZTR, you're going to have to spend more time mowing. That's just a fact. How much more depends on the size and lay of the land. If it's only a few acres, depending on the terrain and obstacles, that could be just a few minutes to an hour or even more. Only you can make that call on your land.

Not pushing Power Trac, however, take a look at that type of machine and what it can do. Compared to machines of similar weight (and bare tractor weight seems to be what some want to push as the driving decision on picking a tractor), it outperforms conventional tractors of the same weight in most of the tasks you mention. It will not do well as a pulling machine, so if you have to plow dirt, or pull stumps, a conventional tractor will do much better at those tasks. Otherwise, it's much more maneuverable, more gentle on lawns, tills, maintains gardens, moves dirt much faster than a tractor, does a better job of mowing than a tractor, and is generally safer on hills. A front mounted post hole auger (or post pounder on larger models) will easily outperform a 3pt post hole auger on a scale that's almost ridiculous. Go over to the Power Trac forum and ask owners about their post holing experiences with 3pt VS front mount hydraulic post hole diggers. There's a couple reasons it works so much better; because it's out front where you can see it, and, it has power down-pressure, which 3pt implements don't. You can get tree planter heads and many sizes of tree planters augers as well.

Anyhow, it's worth looking into those types of machines. I can understand you wanting to consolidate. However, if I already had a ZTR, and it does the job well, why get rid of it, unless you need the space or it's near end of life and will cost too much to get back in good working order.

Compact tractor and zero turn or front deck mower would be ideal!

How do you consolidate equipment from one tractor and one mower?

Answer: Hire a landscape contractor and sell the equipment. Not a good choice.

It would only be ideal for him if he wants to maintain (or can afford) two machines. For most of us, he has a pretty good thing going right now, but maybe that's not the best for him. ;)

Want one machine to do it all? I vote Kubota B2601. Lots of bang for the bucks. Especially now that they have pretty much all the premium features of B50 series.

Here's what they can do (mine is the older version of the B2601) There are pics where you can see the lawn cutting quality too.

Lots of people like the tractor and zero turn combination, but I like one machine that can do it all. I already have enough stuff I have to maintain around here so if I can eliminate something all the better.

So your B21 is effectively an older model of the current B26, albeit with a bit less HP and maybe a bit more weight. If you need a backhoe with that level of strength and durability, I think you could get a B26. Refer here: https://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/kubota-owning-operating/213684-b26-mower.html

It's not clear to me what sort of mower you'd want. You could put a rear finish mower on it, or a bush hog, or a flail mower, depending on your needs. I seem to recall the B26 doesn't take a MMM, and the FEL isn't removable (the backhoe is), personally I'd want the FEL off for mowing, particularly if it's hilly.

If you don't really need that level of TLB, then a B2601 or B2650, with optional backhoe if you need one, would take a MMM and the FEL is removable. Either would also take a small rear finish mower or bush hog. Either would do what you describe, I might lean towards a B2650 with spacers given you're hilly, and a B2650 has a bit more height for driving a 3pt hitch auger.

Of course, an L or Grand L would also do an excellent job of it. How much money do we have to spend? And if you're not looking new there are a lot of other options too. Do you need a cab? That limits also what options you have.

I only have 3 acres and have a zero turn to mow with and a new bx2380 to do other stuff with. No tractor can mow as conveniently as a zero turn and nothing else can replace a tractor with a fel and the other stuff a person can hook up to it. I only wish I'd bought the tractor seventeen years ago when we built on this little property.

IMO you are set with what you have.
