Been contemplating a Mag drill for some time now but I really don't want to purchase a Hougen or a Milwaukee because of the high cost. Are the Mag drills on Amazon (import) any good? Going to buy a set of carbide tipped annular cutters as well. Recommendations would be appreciated.

Same boat I was in. We had Hougens at work, but oy they're pricey and mine won't get used enough to justify the cost. I opted for one from Amazon - a Vevor MD40, and use Stick-Kut lube for steel. It's been very useful and works well. My BIL needed to drill 6 holes in a precise pattern through posts in his pole barn. There was a plate for opposite sides of the pole with holes for through bolts. I clamped a piece of steel to the post and used the twist drill chuck to establish location and "trueness". Then went the rest of the way with a handheld 1/2" drill.

I didn't find one exactly like mine, but here's one that resembles it:

Few pics below. Drilling hole for gusset on the receiver hitch on the bucket. I was a little surprised the metal provided enough surface for the magnet. It was marginal - couldn't really bear down. Second pic is a 1"diameter hole through 1) thick steel. Very fast and easy. Third and last pics are a plate I made for drilling holes in things where the magnet won't work well. Just clamp it in place and drill through the big hole. Fourth pic is the post at my BIL's.

Looking at the reversable one so I can drill and tap with it. How is the magnetic hold? Is it sufficient? Hougen is way over the top price wise for me. I take it they also have through the spindle coolant? The reviews are kind of middle of the road from what I read.

Gonna buy a set of carbide tipped annular cutters as well. Project Farm did a review and I'm gonna go with his recommendation on the Jestuous set.

Been perusing both CL and FB Marketplace for one as well but I really don't want to buy a used one, sight unseen.
