Hi I am looking at a geared 4WD B7100 16hp. It has a snowblower and a mid mount mower. I was wondering if the PTO was live or not and what else I should be looking for. It has a couple thousand hours on it but the guy says the engine is great. Is $4800 an ok price for this arrangement? It is also coming with a rear blade. Has turf tires that sound like they are usable for a while but may need replacement down the road. Also the rops was cut off near the top. but he has a metal replacement bolted in and could be welded.

I have a jinma wood chipper that I use. would 16hp diesel be enough to run it?

$4800 seems like a good price with attachments. I have never check to see if the PTO was live so can稚 answer that question. I woud have the ROPS welded. In a roll over the bolt will shear off and that does not seem to be very safe

What size Wood chipper?

I have a Jimna 6" wood chipper. I decided against the B7100. I am looking at B7500, B7510, B7610 sizes now. I looked at the BX machines for a bit but the front tires are so small. Being in the country they just didn't seem sturdy enough. I am looking for something that can handle hills and slick spots and finish mow and still have decent pto power.

If you are looking to use that 6" chipper on the tractors you mentioned you may not have enough power to actually chip 6" wood. I have a 4 1/2" chipper that I run on my B7510 and when I (rarely) feed 4" wood into it the engine bogs down some. I have read here that 4-5" chippers will slow down engines in the 28hp range too.

Thanks for the replies guys. I don't do much of the 6" but there is some. I had this on a IH400 that I think was around 40hp and it worked so well I was thinking that it didn't work the tractor that hard. I am also looking at the B7800. That might have more in range for the HP. Most of my stuff will be smaller branches but there will be the occasional 6" material. I finally bit the bulllet and I am getting financing approved so I will know what kind of animals I can afford :). If it doesn't work out I can always run the chipper on my 65hp mahindra. I just wanted that machine to have the backhoe on it for digging out trees. I could split up the two operations though so I can reconfigure it for the chipping. I just thought it would be nice to have the smaller tractor there with a chipper running so I could clear material quickly. The main use of the B will be a finish mower / garden machine.

How do the Bs handle post hole diggers?

I used a Woods 5000 chipper/shredder behind a B6100 for a while and it handled almost everything I fed to it. Had to feed it slowly with the large stuff and I rarely put anything over about 3.5 inch but it worked great with the small stuff.

I had a B5100..12hp...I'm thinking the B7100 is the same drive train being a live PTO...If you purchase this be sure to install a PTO overrun clutch.

If you are chipping smaller branches 2-3" for the most part then you will be just fine. I can't feed the small stuff into the chipper fast enough to make the 21hp engine notice. Since you have the large Mahinda the B7100 (or similar size) would probably be a very nice machine to add to the lot. If the 6" wood is too much you could just make another pile of the large stuff and switch out the machines in the front of the chipper when you have time.
