i bought a Yanmar 3110d tractor, sellers tells me it was made somewhere between 1983-1987 and has 37hp but everything I've read elsewhere says it was made 1979-1981 with 35 hp, not that this makes a real difference but it's nice to know for future reference

The 38 HP is probably gross engine horsepower. The 35 HP is probably PTO horsepower.
There is a Yanmar forum on TBN. I'm sure folks on that forum can provide much more information.

Is it just me, or do sellers always tend to err by saying they are younger and more powerful machines ?

Unlike automobiles tractors don't devalue as much by model year as they do by clock hours. But you do want to know what you have if you need spare parts!

Could be an honest mistake by the seller...could be a sales tactic.

If you know where to get the parts. Year mod. is no big deal. You just say. I have a 3110D & the part you need. You will probably never know the exact build date. Somewhere in the 79 to 80 ? range. Everyone likes to throw out large HP #'s. I believe it's actually in range of 33-35 engine HP @ 25-2600 rpm

You can get just about any part you need.There are alot of new parts for 3110D. Several suppliers also. Go to the home page and look down the page for the yanmar section. We would be glad to help ya
