he said mostly high but he made a disturbing comment and What he said was if you are mowing and it gets too tough for the hydro in high gear the tractor will just stop moving no matter how hard you push down on the pedal. Ha said then you just put it in low gear.
I am very surprised at what he said ( My experience has been with a gear tractor).
Any comments would be greatly appreciated.
Another thing to recognize about HST transmission's that is "counter intuitive" is -- the harder you push down on the pedal the faster the tractor will go - but the less power you have. If you want/need more power, you have to let off the pedal and go slower.
Generally, the tractor will spin out before the engine stalls or the HST goes to bypass (if the throttle is set high enough).
The OP's question's regarding pricing -- hinges greatly on what the value is for his Ford 601 and what options are present on each of the tractor's he's looking at.
The rear ballast box is ~$200. Rear SCV's? Power-beyond? Both tractor's have R4's? Motion match - cruise control? HD bucket's on FEL? Reversible cutting edge? Foldable ROP's? Seat armrest's? Grill-guard (2 styles)?
That said - goin' on "seat of the pants" and his trade-in is worth $5K then the JD is too high. I'd put the green tractor in the $20K range and that means the dealer is offering less than $2K for his Workmaster.
Can't really comment on the NH; 'cause I don't have any history with the "Blue line".
My $0.02.
