Just a heads up/product review

I recently bought a MX 600 logitech "lazer" cordless mouse. I've been trying to use it for approx 2-3 weeks & have decided it is just plain unusable. Very jumpy, it moves in unexpected directions at unexpected times. impossible to game with. I bought it to replace my cordless optical logitech that I wore out the left click button on. I will be going back to the store to buy another one of those.

You could change from left click to right click and use your old one.

At home I have a harsh environment for a mouse - continual cat hair on the mousepad from a cat who sleeps on the warm monitor. I've finally found a mouse that doesn't accumulate cat hair inside and remains accurate for months before it needs cleaning.

What I've settled on is the genuine IBM mouse ('manufactured for IBM, made in China') that is sold with professional office computers. These last forever, or at least 10x compared to the cheap mice that come with generic and low-end computers. I use the IBM version with a scroll button in the center, but I never seem to use that feature. I finally tossed out a pile of cheap retired mice that I probably could have restored by intensive cleaning - why bother. Sometimes paying more for quality is well worth it.

Sounds like you need an optical mouse. No moving parts, never needs cleaning or a mousepad to use.

I concur -- they are the best!

BTW, if a mouse does not have a wheel on it, I don't want to use it. It's the bees knees for scrolling up/down pages.

I bought a cheap $999 computer (cheap back then) several years ago that came with a Microsoft brand optical mouse. The computer is long gone, but the mouse is now in its third computer, and the wheel mouse that came with this computer is in a box in the basement.

I bought an optical mouse for my computer at work too when I got tired of my mouse at work being clogged with dust, etc, and IS wouldn't buy one for me. I watch them replacing the old style mouse on computers every week with the same kind, and I don't understand why they won't spend the extra ten dollars on a mouse that will last five times longer.

That's actually part of the problem. I have it set at a speed which allows me to do what I normally do, however One of the most maddening things about this mouse is that it will slow down by itself whenever you get near a button, link or anything you want to click on. Sometimes it will require another 2" of mouse movement to get the pointer to move 1/16"(if it ever gets there before diving off in an unrelated direction). I tried uninstalling the mouse software with no results as it will not work on standard microjunk software (my old one would)

I tried using it on a piece of paper, it's jumping was twice as bad as the arm of the couch.

The only thing "wrong" with an optical mouse is that it won't work on glass, you have to put a piece of paper or something under it, other than that, they're great!

have you tried it on a plain colored/textured surface?
is it possible that any ridges in the couch, or lines on the
paper are causing it to throw off the signal from the lazer?
