Hi all, I'm a bit computer illiterate. I want to post a pic but I exceed the amount of kb's allowed. Anyone know how I can make them a bit smaller to get them to fit? They are JPEG images and are roughly 1.7Mb. in size.

Ron, I have downloaded that resizer applet and installed it a number of times but cannot get it to work. It is clearly installed as there is a menu option for resize picture when I right click on a jpg but it doesn't actually make the change or create a new file for me. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

An alternative is simply to use whatever software came with your digital camera and then modify the size of the file to a 4x6 photo and at the same time, when saving the JPG, choose a lower quality compression value. Most graphics programs will let you see what the size of the file will be after saving in various configurations. Just fiddle until it shows the file will be less than 100kb and save it with another name.

Another alternative is Irfanview.
Just open the image (in Irfanview), go to the Image command, then resize/resample. Select a standard size (I suggest 800x600) and go from there.
Bringing the size down from 1.7Mbs to 100 Kb might take a bit of work.

BTW, although this is the "Attachments" forum, I don't think attaching a picture is the intent of the forum! The "Related Topics" may be more appropriate.
No problem though...if it was, one of the Moderators would have moved this thread.

I do not use the program for resizing photos. But checked it again to make sure it works. It resized a photo with no problem. Do have a option under advanced set that will not change photos?

Isn't tweaking the moderators half the fun here?? Why else would they be paid such big bucks? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

http://www.photosize.com/

Go to this web site and they will walk you through it, for free.

Funny thing about most of this computer stuff, it's all pretty easy once you learn how, kind of like riding a bike.

Thread moved. Believe me, this kind of moderation is much more satisfying than some of the other stuff we're paid those big bucks to do! Rumor has it our salaries are going to be DOUBLED next year /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

That image resizer works great for me. I like it because it does not change the original at all; just creates a new photo in the same folder with the same name with "(small)" added to the name.

Another option is PIXresizer, which is freeware and available {HERE}

Of all the resizers that I've tried, I find PIXresizer to be the simplest to use. It also gives you the option of resizing a group of photos. Just put them all in a single folder, and then select that folder for resizing. It's that simple.

Don't know why but it just is not working on my computer. I see the menu option and choose the size I want but don't get a new file or a modified original. It just doesn't work. I am not a novice with these programs but this one won't work for me. I can downsize in Photoshop without any trouble but I'd love a quicker way to do it especially in batches.
