Comments on Southern Equip. standard duty bush hogs?

I looked at the red 5ft International mower (model IM502) for $500 today and I decided to hold off on it for a while. It's not a bad deal, but I really want one that's yellow or green to match the JD. I have a line on a 5ft Southern bush hog on CL that is selling for $700. Talked to the seller today and he says it's like new. It looks pretty good in the picture and it's yellow! I looked at the Southern Equipment website and it's a standard duty mower with a 40hp gearbox and it weighs about 520lbs. They use formed channel steel for the sidewalls of the mower housing which seems like it would be a pretty sturdy design. I do think that $700 is a bit high for his asking price. Looks like they sell new for about $895 or so.

Anyone ever bought/owned/used a Southern standard duty mower? IF so, what are your thoughts on it??

I've been looking at ads for used rotary cutters (aka bush hogs). From what I've seen on the used market, that paint job isn't going to look good for very long, so I wouldn't worry about what color it is. Or if you're really set on matching your JD, buy a couple of cans of genuine JD Green paint and have at it. It'll cost you a lot less than the extra $200.
