Same here, it's always been a milk shake or shake. For me especially it's a Coffee Milk Shake..
And yea frap is some yuppie thing.
Anyone I knew growing up called it a frap. NO ONE called it milkshake back then. Term seems to have fallen out of favor some time in the 80s. Maybe just a New England thing. Don't know many yuppies, so have no idea what they call it.
I knew it was over when McDonalds started calling it a fra-pay.

For me it is like going to Boston, and ordering a regular coffee to go, which automatically comes with four sugars and two creams.
That's what a "regular" coffee is in New England. What's a regular coffee where you come from?

As far back as I can remember, we have had a choice. Either a milkshake or a malt.
The malt is just a milkshake with malted milk power added but it was so much better and so thick you had to use a spoon to eat it.

Same here, I never have had a Malt. Milk Shake or Ice Cream Shake and of course the always ready root beer float. And this is going back into the late 50's, when ice cream stands were only open in the summer.

I got one of these large 1 liter steins and every evening it was Breyers homemade vanilla, a banana, whole milk, Hershey syrup, Ovaltine with whipped cream on top.
Every evening.
Then pants went from 34, 36, 38, 40 & I had to punch holes in my belt!
They ought to have this sticker on certain foods like Cheetos, ice cream, cookies, etc.
