Clutch Pedal Return Spring

I just bought my first tractor, a 1982 JD 950. I have been going through it doing some long neglected maintenance and when I was setting the clutch pedal free play I noticed that the pedal moves back and forth too much in its static position and looking under the foot board I saw no return spring for the pedal. The online parts manual I went to does not show a spring yet looking underneath I can see what are probably the holes where it attaches to the pedal and the board. I'm thinking there must be a spring for this as I've never seen a clutch linkage / pedal combo that didn't have a return spring!

Can anybody here confirm this and hopefully give me a part #?

I think the spring is internal see #4 in the drawing

Get a long spring and start cutting it down to the right length. You can guage about the right size spring by the holes it'll fit into on the pedal and base. Even if it's an internal spring - you'll be doing the same thing enternally. Just make sure it shifts safely and feels right - then you should be fine.

Thank you both for your replies. The internal spring looks to be it but I don't like the way the pedal moves around in its 3/4 inches of free play and that it can rest at the point of engagement to the throw out bearing so I'll be looking for a spring to fix that............my only complaint so far with what seems to be to be a nicely made compact Japanese tractor.

does the connecting rod to clutch pedal, have some sort of "adjusting nut" or can you screw the rod in on one end? that would more likely take the free play out. and then just rely on the internal spring.
