I was grinding stumps today and opening up some new food plot area. I was getting allot done and only had a small area to finish up....but it was kinda a tnagle of dead trees.

Now....I know better than to push over trees....and I'm typically a smart guy.....and will only push select, short, leaning kind that dont pose a threat. But, I wanted to get the job done and these dead, ole, leany, good-for-nothing, jack pine looked like I could push em over pretty quick and easy, and I could finish up my job by grinding the remaining stumps. MISTAKE!

So, I'm pushing high with my loader on a small 7" diameter tree....and the #$%^&* thing decides to break.....and comes down like a big spear just missing me (belted safely in the seat) by a foot or two. (it actually scraped the fender/tire :confused2:) A few smaller branches came along too....and I was dodging some of the "small" stuff too (which is hard to do when your belted in the seat).

Dumb.....coulda been bad! Lucked out again. Just thought I should say so....so others (and me) avoid this practice.

been there! Dead poplars are my problem - they are so easy to push down, but always break in half with the top half falling back wards. I'll never try to push one of them down again.

As soon as I saw the highlighted word I had a good idea what was coming. I know that you know better than this. Glad to hear that you're OK. At the very least you need to have a solid metal canopy before even thinking about pushing trees. Again, glad to hear that you're OK. Lesson learned.

I just took down a few trees and had a close call situation I'd never run into before -- vines between the tops pulled branches loose from a second tree when the first one went down - dropped 'em right on top of me. I couldn't belive how long the vines where. They must have been 75 feet of loose vine laying onthe ground when it all was over. Thank God is was light stuff and nothing more than a surprise and annoyance......

I hate vines too. I have been clearing underbrush and fallen trees from my property and it seems every time I go to scoop a log and back up a vine is tangled up in and empties my bucket prematurely. I don't understand how this stuff grows either, I have some vines that are 30 feet from the nearest tree trunk yet they reach up to the canopy.
