This JD 51 loader has been sitting outside for a bit. This gunk seems to come off with my fingernail. What's the easiest and safest way to get it off without scratching the cylinder rod?

The hoses all have quick-connect fittings on them and seem to be full of fluid. I'm guessing there's probably some moisture in there, what's the easiest way to flush the hoses out?

Thanks.

the gunk you speak of is rust....it's bit too late for a perfect clean up, but scotch-brite pads or a mild abrasive chrome cleaner may help.....then keep them oiled or greased when you are not using the loader

New rods and a repack will be on the future menu to make them whole again
