Kioti ck20
Hi all I am new to this forum and look forward to some good discussions but at the moment I need help please. I bought a ck20 about a year ago and I have done some work on it over the winter and it's in reasonable condition for its age. Anyway today my son was rotovating and he got the rotovator jammed in a large rock and pto just stopped. Pto will not engage and is free turning does anyone know if there is a shear pin somewhere or have I got bigger problems. Hope someone can help

Hello! Sorry to hear your having issues.

If it's the PTO stub that is free turning, I think you're in for a transmission teardown to fix it, unfortunately. If it's still under warranty, the dealer MAY cover it. However, you're likely going to be asked about what you were doing with it, were you using an appropriate shear pin/slip clutch, etc. I would think a slip clutch (if maintained) or a shear pin would have slipped/broke long before your PTO stub though. Both are WAAAAAYYYY cheaper than a transmission tear down/rebuild.

I fear you are right however I have just had a quick look at it and the pto seems to be engaging (stub not turning) with tractor off. There is a slip clutch on the rotovator which is giving me some hope of a simple fix and having ask/interrogated my son he says it stopped the moment it hit the rock. When I get time I will disconnect the engage lever and try engaging direct from trans box as lever system seems a very fine tuned and may not be allowing full engagement. Question is if I do try this and there is damage in there how much more damage am I going to do.

If you can, unbolt the PTO rear bearing block on the back of the tractor. The PTO shaft should come out with block. You might be able to see the issue right away. There will be a coupler that connects the shaft inside. If you pull the shaft nice and easy the coupler should stay put. If it falls off, you just have to fish it out and reinstall it.

Sounds like a good plan hopefully get to it next weekend funny how work seems to get in the way of the important jobs. Thanks for the advice
