CK20 Shifting/Gear Selection?

I have been moving a large pile of dirt left over from my new house project. I have 2 1/2 acres and I am moving it to the rear of the property, approx 275 feet. How should I handle the distance I must travel? I have been making the trip while loader is full in Hi/2nd gear. The return trip in Hi/3rd gear. I have tried to shift on the fly from second to third, but always get a bit of gear grind. So, I started just taking off in 3rd but need to slip the clutch more then I like, or lug the engine. Do you folks shift on the fly?

Only 1st and reverse are synchronized on the CK20 gear transmission.

The specs on the tranny say "Synchro/Constent". Guess that dosen't mean what I thought!

Yes, the Syncro part is First - Reverse.

Constant must mean "Put it Second and stay there"

You'll get used to it !

Don't if it will work but you could always try double clutchin like we do in them big trucks.

Yea, that requires application of throttle between clutchin, and I am using the hand throttle. Guess I will live with the clutch slippen to get going in 3rd gear.

"Double clutchin' " only works on the CK20 if you hapen to be going down a slight slope! (not too safe) the tractor slows too quick before you can get the gears speed matched. Was only able to get mine (when I had the 20) to do it twice and that was no load and going down hill, other wise, find a "happy" gear and go.
