Cigarette lighter plug

Hi Folks,
I have a wood chipper that needs 12V to power whatever opens the value in the hydraulic line to power the feed roller. I have always used a small 12V battery for this. I am thinking now of using the cigarette lighter plug on the LX410 in the storage area on the rear wheel fender. Does anyone know where to get one of the cigarette lighter male plugs that I can wire into cable that runs to the chipper?

Most auto parts stores have them. Here's an example of a male plug with 3' cord. This cord is light duty. I don't know how many amps your valve requires to open so make sure its heavy enough.

You could us an old car cell phone charger, just open it up and use thicker wire. I'm assuming you can solder.

Amazon has a lot of 12v outlets available. I installed an outlet on my Deere 4400. I do suggest getting a marine type plug and male fitting as they are made for outside use.
I used mine to power a warning light (mounted on the ROPS) when I was clearing snow.

I picked a very nice marine outlet from West Marine a while back. The receptacle and plug are both covered in that soft, shiny plastic that is sometimes used on the handles of tools - which forms an excellent watertight seal.

Sure beats the heck out of the Autozone receptacle it replaced, whose rubber cap had tendency to just fall off after a couple of years.

Thanks for the ideas. I think I only need the male as the plug is already there on the fender of the tractor and it must be setup for outdoor use. I did notice the marine type plugs and that is what I will buy.
I don't need this just yet as the battery I have been using took a charge so I might as well get my money's worth out of it.

Marine grade is definitely the way to go for exposed/semi-exposed switches & connections. If you planned on lights or any other upgrades for later you could box in and mount a little switch panel for work lights, radio, etc. and only go in the once. Adds to the cost but gives you plug-in options for later. I always get panels with more space than I figure in case I want to tie in more later--keeps things neater.
