The in-laws are BIG on getting lists for birthday and Christmas gifts. Well, Christmas is approaching and my list is overdue :)

So .... What the heck do I need or want? If you were asked what gift(s) you would like (trying not to be too expensive) what would you choose?

I'm not very good at such things myself; not much imagination. But of course I could always use a gift card for Home Depot, Tractor Supply Co., Lowe's, or such.

Yes, gift cards are always handy.

They do almost all of their shopping online, so I usually provide links along with the ideas.

I agree with Bird. I'm hard to buy for because I don't really want anything. Gift card is good. That way when I do need something I can use it to buy it. Other than a card, clothes are a second choice.

I'm on the gift card bandwagon. HD, Lowes-project money. TSC always gets used, too.

A 3 yr subscription to Mother Jones is not expensive. :D

Seriously, I'd try to think of some tool or useful thing to use around home.

For me, I really do not care for the gift cards. What they say, I feel, is that the person doesn't care enough about me to figure out what I want or need and to go shopping for it. Yes, I know they save time, energy, and perhaps money; but they are wayyyy to impersonal for me.
Now for me this year, perhaps a supply of a can or three of "Fluid Film", some good leather work gloves, Dremel tool implements, and on and on..........life is good....God bless......Dennis

For years I HATED the Christmas season... anything I want I buy, and it really was tough pretending gratitude for something which would sit forgotten in a drawer.

A few years ago my family stopped exchanging gifts; instead we pick a list off a tree at church, and buy gifts for a needy family. We get together on the second Sunday in December so the gifts wil be under the tree for Christmas... and I look forward to the holiday more than I have in decades.

I'm with ya'. Other than gifts for my wife and daughter, I would much prefer to just get the extended family together for dinner. Oh well .. that's not going to happen anytime soon :)

So far, on my list, I have a "Big Berkey Water Filter", a dehumidifier for my gun safe and a few clothing items. Frankly, I can do these things for myself but they just LOVE the gifting thing. What's a man to do? lol

I like giving everyday things that I know will be used and enjoyed. Like;
cheese & sausage, chocolate, sprites, etc. And who would say no to a new set of screwdrivers?

For some reason I like to give rather than to receive especially to my better half or son. But lists are nice how about a nice lever action Winchester

I'd love a new set of screwdrivers, need my address? ;).

Just trying to make you happy. :D

Milwaukee 12v heated jacket with the 18v accessory option so you can charge your phone with the USB connection in the jacket pocket.

DeWalt, Bosch and Makita makes them as well.

Now to Google how to hook up a hot cocoa maker to the jacket and I am all set.

Gift cards for stores and don't forget restaurants, too. Batteries, warm socks, a couple lottery tickets.

We have a candy factory in town and they sell "almost perfect" high-end chocolates. They look funny, but taste great and are usually 1/3 the price of normal or less.... my wife and I go for quantity of taste Vs quality of looks. For example, last year we found a 20 pound box (yes, that's twenty) of dark chocolate covered cherries for $10.00!!! (yes, that's ten dollars). Normally $18.00 per pound, it would have been $360.00. Ten bucks! We froze it in half-quart bags and it took us a year to eat it all!

Anyhow, we both love it and have told friends and relatives to by us the defect candy.

I used to have lots of brother-in-laws (some died, others divorced). One year I got them all small flashlights. Next year, medium flashlights. Next year HUGE stinking bazillion watt flashlights. One year I got them all cheap multiple clamp sets from Harbor Freight. Like 20 clamps in a pack. Very handy, yet inexpensive. I got them all tool bags one year. Plenty of stuff that's handy yet under $20.00.

Multi-bit screwdrivers to keep in the car. Those 3' long thumb operated grabbers for when you drop stuff behind a tight space. Magnet sets. One year I found $29.00 electric chainsaws.... but my brother-in-laws are not mechanically inclined and I thought they might hurt themselves, so I passed on those!

well that was fun... just replied to thread heard fizzling...power blinking rapidly then a large BOOM!, then more fizziling for a few seconds... 4 flash lights all dead. found a lighter. a few bumps later got out to vehicle to turn on head lights to see if down cable or what. couldn't tell from all the fog or if smoke, if something was burning on telephone pole, or next door across road. a few bumps and a slight burn latter, just dialed 911 vs electric company directly *getting fed up hitting stuff and burning myself*. `15 minutes later power company shows up, and gets things figured out "ground cable feel down onto transformer is what he said. cop also waved electrical company down. "frowns" i didn't like calling 911 directly for issue. but they were on the ball!

i did try calling operator first before 911 via dialing just zero. i ask'ed to be connected to electrical company. stupid ATT lady puts me through what seemed like a 4 minute menu, the ends up trying to dialing my own number. had no idea what she put me through to... thought i was filling out a electrical problem report... i think it was a menu to have my land line fix for connection issues :/

so my Christmas list is now... new flash lights, extra set of batteries for them. and a new battery backup. it would seem this one has some dead batteries. and more so a new land line phone with some small little led light for buttons and a little contact emergency list that draws power from actual land line itself when phone is off hook.
