It would seem to me that the coil only serves to return the chopper back to the starting point. does the long support arm just change places with the axe handle?

Looks like easy splitting wood, I'd say you would be better off with an axe or a block buster once the going got tough.

Physics will tell him he is not making anything easier, just a different motion. He only gets out of the coil what he puts in with his muscle energy.
I also agree with the poor wood choice to demo it's abilities.

looks like basswood that he is splitting. well, if that is what he has the most of, it is a good machine for that guy.

I'd keep a bucket of ice on hand, just in case.
