After a few hours of driving over our lumpy terrain, my back feels all young & limber again - it's like a Tractor of Youth. The best part is no one is trying to sign me up for 3 more months of 3 sessions a week at $120 a session plus I actually get some work done.

The gentleman we bought our place from said that when his dad came home from his job working as a tool and die maker, he would make a beeline for the tractor and drive it around, doing tractor stuff until late in the evening. He said his dad called it his Thinking Machine because when he was on it no one bothered him, if the phone rang he didn't hear it, and he often came up with solutions to problems at work that had been bothering him all day in the shop.

A friend of mine (a mechanic) has said the same thing. His back bothers him sometimes and he says a bit of seat time does wonders for it!

I need a bigger tractor! My little 2305 makes a tired back stiff and sore.

Thanks for posting that, and your phrase is spot on....Chirotractor. I find that tractor time offers so many side affects. There are times when I operate the bush hog or plow and absolutely nothing clutters my mind. Just an occasional look to see that the equipment is functing properly, and moderately full speed ahead. Other times, especially during college football season, I will listen to my headset radio and "tune out". But I totally agree with the "problems solved" aspect of tractor time. It is like you put it in 3rd gear low, and that speed gives your mind, body and spirit some "slow down" and you are able to concentrate clearly on a thought.

Chirotrator = the right pace

I'm one of the people who like mowing and other tractor work. What I enjoy about getting on my CUT at the end of the day is the same thing I get at our family's farm when I'm cutting wheat/beans/corn or other chores-it's the satisfaction of being able to look over your shoulder and see what you've done!

Having said that, after I get off, I'm ready for some asprin and a good walk to straighten out my back and neck. But the soreness and stiffness is worth it to get the sense of a job well accomplished.

So, I've been following the threads on the suspension seat upgrades some other TBN'ers have been doing with a lot of interest. Make that a LOT of interest!

I found that mowing is something I can do when I'm too tired to do anything else. My place takes about 3 hours to mow and there is some satisfaction in getting it done. I call it "stupid work"...something I can do without thinking. It's also a good time to say some prayers for friends and family. So now we have some that are "Chirotractors" and some that are "Psycotractors"....it's also a good place to go when one is pisxxed off at the spouse...would that be "Matrotractor"? :D

Might just be-I tell my friends that tractor time is cheaper than a psychiatrist!
