Chipper self feeding

Hello, I have a new to me Wallenstein 42R chipper. It has the hydraulic feed that runs off the tractor.

Once in a while, when chipping larger pieces, the chipper seems to start self feeding, pulling the piece in faster than the rollers are feeding.
Sometimes if I reverse the direction, it stops, but many times reversing does not stop it and the result is a broken shear bolt on the PTO.

Am I doing something wrong?
Is there a way to prevent this?

When “self feeding” Does reversing the feed rollers change direction the rollers are turning? If yes then it is a matter of friction between feed rolls and material being fed into the chipper. The chipper blades are pulling the material past the feed rolls.

Is there an option to increase spring tension on the feed rolls?

Yes, the the wood is being pulled right through the feed rollers.
I think I can increase the spring tension, I'll try. Thanks!

I have a Wally - bx62S. It's a manual feed. The blades grab onto the trees and pull/feed faster than you would believe. It does this so very fast - it will scare new comers. New folks will come out here to help. I always have to warn them - so they won't get scared.

I think hydraulic in-feed rollers would have a difficult time slowing this process.

I thin my pine stands - every couple years or so. 800 to 1200 young pines during a thinning/chipping session.

It sounds like exactly what my 42 R is doing.
I tried tightening the spring tension with no luck.
My problem is that when it starts self feeding the log, the end result is a broken shear bolt.
