Chipper Chinese chipper infeed roller drive spring

I have a WC 8 Chinese PTO wood chipper similar to the Woodmaxx WC 8N or the Jimna. I also have the dreaded feed roll drive shaft problem where the pin type universal joint fails. Can some one suggest a technique to deal with the drive shaft compression spring when installing or removing the shaft? I do not have the arm strength to manually compress the spring.
