Chiggers

Do you have a home remedy to releive the itch of them. I have somehow gotten into a nest of them.
All over my ankles. Almost can't wear my boots. Dipping them in cold water, calamine lotion, alcohol not much seems to work. Thanks for anything that helps.

Funny (?) Chiggers story. Many years ago Dad (rip) got chiggers on his (applesack), ran in bathroom, grabbed what he thought was ointment and spread it on. It was Ben Gay!
We had a small fan in living room, he was standing over it , fan aimed straight up. He was on fire!

Well after scrubbing clean and some ointment, they do feel a little better. But not gone. Thanks for all the suggestions.
Onion juice? seems like it would burn a little. What type onion? Vadalia? Purple? Yellow?

For chiggers, or any severe itching including poison ivy, I apply VERY hot water for a minute or so. I use as hot as I can tolerate, usually starting with mildly hot and cranking it up to very hot. After a minute or two, I can tell I've deadened the itch sensation and I can pat the area dry. That tones the itching for hours, so applying hot water in the morning and evening does wonders. For awkward areas like my neck, I fold a wet washcloth and heat it in the microwave until steaming hot. Apply carefully and get the same relief.

Back in the 1950's, when we got into them,, my older sister would put a small dab of fingernail polish on each spot,,

Never tried it on chigger bites, but onion juice will kill the pain of a bee sting ALMOST INSTANTLY. I have mentioned that before on this forum; I thought it was an old wives tale, but it really works.

99% of these bites are itchy and/or painful because the bite is caustic,, (high pH),,
adding a low pH (acidic) most anything will help,, onion, vinegar,,, etc,,,

The onion is neutralizing the infliction the insect leaves behind,,

I really hate chiggers. I have gotten so tire of them, that before I go out, I spray my feet, socks all the way to my knees with deet, I then put my boots on and spray them and my pants legs.

This also works wonders for me and I hate those bites on my feet and ankles. I fold up a 1/4 sheet of paper towel and put in the bottom of a tea cup. Then I put about 2 tablespoons of water and microwave it for about 13 seconds. Then you put the very hot compress on the bite. You want it very hot but don't burn your hide. It stops the itching so you can sleep.
