Sorry they died. But could it be if they were driving something more powerful they would have just hit the tree harder

http://www.iihs.org/research/qanda/rollover.html

Only 3% of accidents are rollovers but cause 30% of fatalitys.
Suv's and pickups are more likely to rollover. Look at the visor of a Suv. It will tell you they have a problem rolling over.

Maybe your's and the engineers thinking in Detroit is the problem.

Don't shoot the messenger. I work on the programs we are assigned too, the programs come from the higher ups. Remember them, the ones that drove Detroit into the ground?

My F250 has hardly warmed up in those 15 minutes. When it tries to clean the soot filter it does not have enough time and so it does it twice a day for a WEEK. Kills the mileage on the entire tank of fuel (10mpg). Usually 15mpg. Short trips with no load are the death of a big diesel truck.

I paid $1200 for the 92 Toyota Pickup and it needs some cosmetic repairs (I think it had a little winter driving adventure & busted up the grill and front bumper). Brake lines are rusted to being unsafe, usual problem for this age of vehicle here with the road salt. Nothing too expensive to be done and it has less than 70k miles. It gets pretty good mileage with a 5 speed manual transmission.

Its not just DEF diesel trucks. All take some miles to run right. Everyone I know with a diesel who runs it easy or on short trips from all 3 brands no matter how old have issues. Hook up 15,000# and pull it for a few thousand miles and it will run like a new one.

i know alot of people that don't do -any- warm up time either. hop in.. may or may not glo, and then roar out of the driveway at top speed with it rattling for the first minute.

I usually walk outside, start my truck and the wifes, and then walk tot he paper box while the gate swings open, grab the paper, walk back in, grab my lunch bucket, then go get in my ride and go.

problem is that they are adding too much "junk" IMHO in todays cars. electronic windows, locks, mirrors, doodads all over car. they gotta have fancy covers on seats, etc. IF they just do away with all that to drive price waaaaay down then we can buy them since its cheaper.

If someone wants to add all that, let 3rd parties do it. its a job maker.

We need diesel in more vehicles, not hybrids crap.

Totally agree, where are the cars with no power windows / locks / steering / seats / mirrors / etc? Vinyl floors / seats. No AC. Small 4 cylinder, standard shift. Cheap, light-weight and fuel efficient.

Technology make more efficient vehicles but the creature comforts and performance add weight negating the efficiency gains.....

I have asked this question many times to my Ford dealer. The answer I got was its a invintory issue. 9 out of 10 buyers want the creature comfort now days so to build and stock stripped down models leaves no room for profit for that 10% or less that want a vehicle like that.

Me personally will give up 5 to 10% economy to have power seats, power windows, ac, power locks, cd player, auto trans, ect.

Creature features are okay, He--, now i even buy a loaded car. BUT why do you need to do 160-185mph to sell a DETROIT car or truck? If they get that power, then channel it properly we can all be getting 50 MPG, and not bouncing around on the hwys in collisions or else?

I don't want to get the thread closed. Success in politics these days means you hand over public money to your friends and supporters whether it makes sense to the taxpayers or represents good public policy. But let's not go into prohibited territory.

$40k for an electric car? I don't think there is anybody around here with the first clue how to work on it. Take it to the electric company and have them service it?
