When checking the hydraulic fluid on a Mahindra 6010 with FE loader and backhoe do you check it with the engine running or engine off? With loader up or down, backhoe extended or up?

My manual says to check with the backhoe up and locked in transport position and FEL in down position. I don't think it will make any difference if engine is running or not, but it isn't necessary for the engine to be running (not like an automatic transmission that you check with engine running.)
