Here is an idea for moving big rocks, that I learned from a stone mason book. First find a hood from a junked car/truck. Flip it shiny side down and roll you rock on. I just use the holes from the braces of the hood for my chain hooks. Be careful when you move, go slow and watch for obstructions that could force the tractor to stop. Hook low on the drawbar.

Gee, we use to do the same thing in the snow. Car hood, friends 1949 Ford Coup.......Zoom Zoom Zoom.

We added the rear bench seat, and with a long chain, the neighbours used to tow us around on the ice behind an 8N. Once they got turning us in a circle we really got moving.
I had forgotten about that; I was a small kid at the time (much bigger kid now). It'sprobably against the law now, too much fun.

We used to use just the hood off the car to slide down the bigger hills a bunch of years ago, the last being off a 49 Packard. I remember because my dad wasn't quite finished with the car or hood.
Real doggone stupid of us.
A few years ago while working as an EMT on the local ambulance service I went to a local ski resort on a run for a 32 year old guy who had attempted to slide down the hill on a plastic trash can lid. His last mistake, ever, was to hit a 3' diameter pipe filled with cement that supports the chair lift.

49 Packard hoods work great because they're nice and deep,
and v-shaped to bounce off the other rocks. But you should
remove the chrome ornaments first, especially the center hood ornament since they dig into the ground. Also you can get a pretty good price for the ornaments!! For a stoneboat I use a flat sheet
of 1/8" thick steel with a ring welded to the front center edge.
Chink the rock with small stones to keep it from rocking too
much. Even when hooking low on the tractor drawbar, the
nose of this rig will bend upward as it is being pulled. At the end of the run, the rock can be easily pushed off the boat.

I've had a lot of success with 3/4" plywood. Pieces are usually no more than 30" wide and atleast that long. I drill an elongated hole in one end to allow the hook and chain to pass through then hook it to the anchor point for the 3 point top link. Then as I raise the 3 point hitch with the draw bar installed it lifts the front of the skid/sled slightly and slides along real nice. Haven't tried to move anything over about 300 lbs. so if your moving a real bruiser it may help to barrow the neighbor's car hood.
