Dirt Moving Cheap Cable Trencher?

Yes I did... Buried coax with it. Worked very good.
basically I took two 8" x 6" plates of steel (1/4 plate), welded the 8" edges together to form a V with the wide end of the V about 4" apart, then welded bracing in to the open end of the V.
Then on what would be the top of the V closer to the point I welded two 3/4" nuts per side. (I did this with them on 3/4" all thread so the threads would line up).
I then took a piece of scrap 3" x 3" 1/4" angle and drilled two holes in it.
To use it you basically slide it over a tooth on the back hoe and tighten the nuts clamping the V under the bucket and the angle in the bucket.
I straddled the wire with the tractor and dragged a ditch about 100', while the wife simply put the wire in the ditch (which ended up about 5 or 6" deep) and pushed the dirt back covering it.

Are you driving the tractor forward and dragging the backhoe? Or are you pulling forward and manipulating the backhoe every 3-4 feet? Yeah, a picture would be great.

I used a subsoiler to bury some thin walled PVC hose - don't see that it would be functionally different from doing the same with cable. Warning - the following picture includes duct tape:

I have a single bottom plow and removed the wheel which is to set the depth. I dropped it and drove forward and it cut the most perfect 6"x6" trench I've about every seen with the removed dirt piled on one side. I did it for drainage and it did it so clean and easy that I did about 5 times as much as I needed. So, if you have a single bottom plow or can borrow one, it's something to consider. Just have to come back along and cover your ditch with the dirt piled on the one side.

I used the backhoe (I had a case 680 at the time) to pull about 12 feet at a time. I didn't have to use the stabilizers the park brake was enough to hold the tractor.
By using the boom, dipper and bucket I could stretch way out and pull the dipper towards me while lifting the boom and rolling the bucket.
It did a really good job. the grass was back to normal within a couple weeks.

For a dog fence wire we just use a edger if you don't have one a local rental store should be $50 or less for the day. Hard to build something for less.
