Charging light

Hello:
New to forum, but glad to find all of you. I have had LK3054 now for 7 years and logged close to 600 hours. Great tractor. Does all that I expected.
Have problem, however, My charging light come on and off. I have done the following:

Checked all connections
Installed new alternator
Installed new voltage regulator
Installed new battery.

Battery never runs down just a very frustrating problems in that I want her to run just right.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Dealer long way away and telephone is of no help!

Larry,
Appreciate the reply. It is totally unpredictable. Some times at idle some times at 2500 RPM or anywhere inbetween. Running times also do not affect it.

Just a guess here.....I know you said you have checked all connections, but have you made sure that the engine ground strap is clean and tight on both ends?

Check the fan belt for proper adjustment. If it is glazed or loose, this could cause the the alternator to not charge properly. The alternators regulator measures the amount of voltage in the battery and then replaces as needed. This would account for the different times that the light would come on. When the battery is at a full charge, the light is off. When the battery is discharged, the alternator senses this and tries to put the proper charge back into the battery. If the belt is slipping, then it can't recharge the battery and the light will glow. A battery at rest, will recharge itself to some extent, so this is why it might come on only when starting sometimes, but not always. This is a simplified explanation of how the alternator works. I don't want to get into volts & amps, because it will add nothing to the situation..
