Oil & Fuel Changing ZD-21 Fuel Filter

I am ready to change the fuel filter on my ZD-21 mower. Anybody done theirs? Any mistakes I should avoid? I planed on filling the new one with the electric pump by leaving the top hose loose until the fuel comes out then starting it up after I secure the fuel line.
