Changing a tire

How is the proper way to change a tire without scratching the wheel on a centerless wheel? How do you break the bead and what kind of tire tools do you need to flip it off?

what you mean centerless there ain't no hole in the middle for the shaft nut? as for as takin the tire offyou can put it under the truck tire and roll over the tire part or you can put the tire under the bumper and use a jack and a 2x4 to push down on the tire from the bumper. i have a tire bead breaker that looks like a big can crusher.i can post a picture of it if you want. it would be real easy to make

I don't know what you mean by centerless wheel, but to break the bead use a woodsplitting wedge and drive it in between the bead and the wheel and keep working your way around until the bead breaks. Be careful not to gouge the bead.

To remove the tire from the wheel, its best to use tire irons. They are flat on the ends and have no sharp corners. You keep working your way around, prying until the tire comes free of the wheel. Northern Tool or tractor supply may carry the tire irons.

You can use dishwashing soap and water to lubricate the tire to help it slide off the rims.

Might be safer to take it to a local auto shop with one of the new tire machines...They can take a tire off nearly anything for 10 bucks or so. Not really worth risking wheel and people damage on a small wheel (since you're in an ATV/UTV thead I'm assuming you're dealing with a sub 15" rim).

i agree if you have a atuo tire place around even walmart does them i would take the tire and rim to them it is a pain in the butt to change them at home.

I've changed car tires, truck tires, cycle tires, but the ones that are the hardest are lawn mower tires. It's like wrestling a alligator with grease on it. The lawn mower tires, I made a pilot to hold them but on the UTV there is no hole in the center. I figure they will be just as hard. I made up a couple of small tire changing irons (smaller than truck or car irons) and will give them a try when ever I have to change them.

I've on occasion used my hydraulic wood splitter to bread the bead on a tire. It has the option to flip vertically. So I place the tire appropriately and slowly lower the ram down to break the bead. 30 Tons of force, never has it been unsuccessful!

That is a good idea I usually use the back hoe tooth and a 2x4 but it is hard to keep every lined up, splitter is just the ticket.
