Hmmm.......they have changed locations slightly or redesigned the loader frame. My 2009 M6040 has the engine oil fill port ahead of the loader frame but the dip stick is right behind the frame.

Whatever - I use a funnel with an 18" flexible metal spout. Snake the spout down into the fill port and wire the top of the funnel to one of the FEL arms. I've tried pouring engine oil directly into the fill port - what a bloody mess!!!!!!! I used the same funnel when I changed hydraulic fluid also.

... What are your thoughts to using a Catapillar type transmission oil for the hydraulic/transmission? Again I have a very good source for it..

Don't use it, especially if you have the hydraulic shuttle transmission. Search for my threads on this but the bottom line is that Kubota SUDT2 (synthetic) is vastly superior in a hyd shuttle trans. If you had a plain old gear drive trans a regular oil is fine but not for the shuttle.

It warms up and functions faster and smoother and "shuttles" cleaner and crisper.

thanks for the advice.. I don稚 want to start another one vs the other on udt vs sudt but
I spoke to a local bota dealer and they don稚 even stock the sudt oil. The recommend the udt oil here since we don稚 get very cold.. I priced the Cat MTO oil and it痴 not any cheaper than udt.. So are most just changing filters at 500 hrs and running oil until 1000?

Dunno. I only know there was a noticeable difference with the synthetic SUDT2 as opposed to, in my case, Deere Hy-Gard. It's not a brand preference so much as a synthetic vs non-synthetic discussion. I was absolutely convinced non-synthetic oil would be fine in both my hydrostat B7800 and M6800 hydro-shuttle.

In a month I dumped it from the B7800 and the M6800 took only 10 hours to convince me that a (or any) full synthetic was better. Find my threads. The fact your dealer doesn't carry it doesn't matter. Years ago most dealers only carried 10W, 20W or 30W motor oil rather than 10W30. But times change and new machinery gets invented that requires different solutions. You're only saving the difference in price between the more expensive and the less expensive. It's not that much and Kubota recommends SUD2. Go figure.

Whatever makes you happiest is the right answer because my free advice is just that.

Regarding hydraulic oil, I don't know about "most", but I intend to only change the two transmission filters at 50 hours, then again at 500 hrs. I'll more than likely just wait the 1,000 hrs for the hydraulic oil change out. It's going to take me a while to get there, but I consider that a pretty good cost savings following what Kubota engineers put in the manual.

Oil and filter change at 50 hrs, then every 500 hrs. There is no time interval specified. I think I've given up listening to everyone else and their conventional wisdom and just due what the book says. As far as the tranny filters at 50 hrs, I have first hand knowledge of the interesting debris you find in there.

Hydraulic oil filter change at 50 hours on my old MX5100 DT. Yes, that piece of gasket rubber was in there too.

Cat's supplier of MTO in the USA is Mobil - Mobilfluid 424 to be specific. As shown on the product sheet, Mobilfluid 424 meets all Kubota UDT specs.
