Boy was it easy. My only complaint is **** those engineers had to put the fill port behind the loader frame. I had to snake some flexible hose that I attached to my funnel but finally got it in there..

I decided to use Caterpillar 15 W 40 oil since I have a very good source along with the factory Kubota OEM filter. What are your thoughts to using a Catapillar type transmission oil for the hydraulic/transmission? Again I have a very good source for it..

I noticed. The dipstick is also behind the loader mount. I don't yet have 50 hrs for the first change, so I'll have to look at the fill port and find something to add all that oil into the crank case. I believe it's somewhere around 12 qts.

I used a little over 3 gallons. My advice to is to get flexible tubing attached to your funnel.. Then zip tie your funnel to the loader bracket unless you have three hands..

My little L2800 is the same, but there is a fill cap on the valve cover that is much easier. Check and see if your M-series has one.

My M9960 has 38 hours on it and I plan to change the engine and hydraulic oil as well as all of the filters this fall.

Sad that the warranty is expiring on elapsed time in 10 days but that's another story.

I have Kubota engine and SUDT hydraulic oil and filters and will do the work myself.

I will do it after I remove the mower in the fall and before I install the FEL.

Last fall I changed the engine oil in my L6060 with the loader installed. I raised the FEL so that it would be out of the way but did not raise it high enough. When refilling the engine, the funnel started to overflow so I quickly turned and headed to the work bench for paper towels, walking right into the corner of the loader bucket. Went right to the floor but caught myself before my face hit the concrete. Blood everywhere but no permanent damage.

No more oil changes with FEL installed.

Why are you changing your hydraulic fluid at ~50 hrs? I have read there have been some manual mis-prints on the 50 hr service whereas only the filter may need to be replaced. My M7060 calls for the hydraulic filter change at 500 hours and transmission fluid change at 1000 hrs, but when you look at the section of the manual that covers filter replacement, step 1 is to remove the drain plugs and drain all the fluid out. I've replaced the Trans & Hyd filter on my L3540 HST without draining all the fluid out. This one calls for a 400 hr fluid change. I can see a preemptive filter change at 50 hrs. I've seen the pictures of pieces of rubber gasket material and metal in the filter filter and on the magnet so it's probably a good idea. I fully understand it's your money, you can do what you want. I'm only asking to understand your thoughts on changing well before the manufacturer's recommended service interval.

My 3540 HST also has a fill cap on the top of the motor. I used the side fill port as the manual shows.

My L4060 called for new filters at 50hrs, but not new fluit until 300 or something. A shop vac over the open fill port creats enough suction air is pulled in through the filter housing rather than leaking out. Makes for an easy filter change without dumping the whole hydraulic sump.

I have noticed my owners book calls for a filter and oil change at 500 hours. But the online service manual calls for a filter change at 500 hours and oil change at 1000 hours. Has anybody else been to this? What are your recommendations? How much oil comes out when you just remove the filters?

If you use the shop vac trick you loose less fluid than is in the filters (HST has 2 filters, not sure on other tranny types).

Haven't looked at hydraulic fluid change dates as I'm only at 130 hours. Looked at the 50 & 100 hour services.

Hmmm.......they have changed locations slightly or redesigned the loader frame. My 2009 M6040 has the engine oil fill port ahead of the loader frame but the dip stick is right behind the frame.

Whatever - I use a funnel with an 18" flexible metal spout. Snake the spout down into the fill port and wire the top of the funnel to one of the FEL arms. I've tried pouring engine oil directly into the fill port - what a bloody mess!!!!!!! I used the same funnel when I changed hydraulic fluid also.

Don't use it, especially if you have the hydraulic shuttle transmission. Search for my threads on this but the bottom line is that Kubota SUDT2 (synthetic) is vastly superior in a hyd shuttle trans. If you had a plain old gear drive trans a regular oil is fine but not for the shuttle.

It warms up and functions faster and smoother and "shuttles" cleaner and crisper.

thanks for the advice.. I don稚 want to start another one vs the other on udt vs sudt but
I spoke to a local bota dealer and they don稚 even stock the sudt oil. The recommend the udt oil here since we don稚 get very cold.. I priced the Cat MTO oil and it痴 not any cheaper than udt.. So are most just changing filters at 500 hrs and running oil until 1000?

Dunno. I only know there was a noticeable difference with the synthetic SUDT2 as opposed to, in my case, Deere Hy-Gard. It's not a brand preference so much as a synthetic vs non-synthetic discussion. I was absolutely convinced non-synthetic oil would be fine in both my hydrostat B7800 and M6800 hydro-shuttle.

In a month I dumped it from the B7800 and the M6800 took only 10 hours to convince me that a (or any) full synthetic was better. Find my threads. The fact your dealer doesn't carry it doesn't matter. Years ago most dealers only carried 10W, 20W or 30W motor oil rather than 10W30. But times change and new machinery gets invented that requires different solutions. You're only saving the difference in price between the more expensive and the less expensive. It's not that much and Kubota recommends SUD2. Go figure.

Whatever makes you happiest is the right answer because my free advice is just that.

Regarding hydraulic oil, I don't know about "most", but I intend to only change the two transmission filters at 50 hours, then again at 500 hrs. I'll more than likely just wait the 1,000 hrs for the hydraulic oil change out. It's going to take me a while to get there, but I consider that a pretty good cost savings following what Kubota engineers put in the manual.

Oil and filter change at 50 hrs, then every 500 hrs. There is no time interval specified. I think I've given up listening to everyone else and their conventional wisdom and just due what the book says. As far as the tranny filters at 50 hrs, I have first hand knowledge of the interesting debris you find in there.

Hydraulic oil filter change at 50 hours on my old MX5100 DT. Yes, that piece of gasket rubber was in there too.

Cat's supplier of MTO in the USA is Mobil - Mobilfluid 424 to be specific. As shown on the product sheet, Mobilfluid 424 meets all Kubota UDT specs.
