The original battery was getting so weak, it would barely crank, after 9 years. It was a Rocket GB60L group 85 battery, hard to find. Today I replaced it with a group 24F with 710 CCA. After taking measurements, I had determined a group 24 would fit in the slightly oversized battery compartment.
It's quite a job to get a battery out of the XJ2025H. Remove 2 bolts, 2 nuts, loosen 6 other nuts, then remove the front screen assembly. Then remove two more bolts, and remove the coolant overflow tank. Then take the battery cables off, remove the hold down bolt, turn the battery on its side, and remove out the front. The new battery had to go in the same way. (It's a spill proof) The new group 24F battery is about 3/4 inch taller, so I made a shim out of thick poly plastic, got a longer 8mm hold down bolt, added a piece of rubber gasket under the hold down, next to the battery, and.fastened battery in. The front screen assembly is tedious to re-fasten, due to cramped space along the sides, making the bottom two nuts on each side a pain.
After the battery replacement, the engine cranked amazingly well. During the winter months, I will periodically trickle charge it, along with my mower batteries.
