Change fluids and filters for a fresh start?

I'm purchasing a 120 some hour old 2007 JD 4520.

The current owner has had it for one year and has only put a few hours (1-5) on it in the last year that he has owned it. He says he had the dealer he purchased from change the fluids and filters before shipping it to him. Unfortunately he does not have a record of this but says he believes that the dealer was honest and would have done it.

I thought I'd open it up to the rest of you for your advice.

The tractor will be going to a nearby JD dealer to get a few things installed like an extra two sets of remotes in the rear and a couple other things and I was wondering if the right thing to do here is to just change everything out to be safe while it is there or ask them to look and see and let me know what needs changing. Maybe change the oil and filter and the hydro filters. Normally I do my own maintenance but the tractor is going to be there anyway and I have a busy fall coming up with work so I'd rather be using the tractor in my spare time rather than doing maintenance.

I will probably be in the minority, but with such low hours I see no reason to deviate from the Operator Manual Maintenance Schedule.

Who knows if the 50 hour service was performed-sounds like your tractor has been floating around with various owners since new???

I changed my hydraulic oil on my 2006 recently with 185 hours and could not believe how dirty it was.

I agree with TripleR on following the jd maintenance schedule HOWEVER if your going to worry about all the time then change it.

I agree also. Gives you a peace of mind, and you KNOW it was done.

I can't find it, but I read a thread on how to tell if the filters had been changed, I believe some tractors were painted with the filters already on.

I think Alabama Roughneck, pretty well has it pinned, if you are going to worry about it, change them. I wouldn't worry about it and own tractors that have never had any mechanical problems in over fifty years.

I was going to say look and see if it looks like the original filters. Meaning a 50 hr break in service was not done. Then I might spend the $500 dollars. Other wise I would agree with 3R and wait.

Now that I think about it I can call the dealer where this tractor was originally purchased, traded in and resold from. The current owner has given me their information. I'm sure the service dept must have records of the service history as they were supposed to change them the last time. Should be pretty straight forward.

Just provide the Serial #. Should be good to go.
