That's an interesting idea on the lawnmower blade. I bet it might work on stuff like hedge and smaller brush. Of course it'd have to be razor sharp.
The teeth I was wanting on the blade needed to be as aggressive as possible and that usually means fewer teeth. I watched the power company contractors (right of way trimmers) work and as soon as their saw touched a limb it was gone. The operator told me they had a very aggressive blade to zip it off instead of having to set there and saw. Of course mine is out of that league but it works simular. Even a 3"-4" limb is zipped off quickly and by the time it hits the ground the blade is back up to speed.
I need something like your sickle mower to trim smaller stuff. The circular blade will do it but takes a long time and is hard to keep moving and cutting at the same time. With the sickle I could move slowly along while cutting. The smallest sickle I have is a 5' that came off an International that didn't have a 3PH. I'm hoping to run across an old Gravely sickle or something like that about 36' - 48". That 5' would seem to bulky trying to operate.
My saw project was a success for what I needed and so far the $80 new blade maybe once a year should keep it going for a while.
My next project will be something to help pick up rocks or should say something to sweep or help maneuver rocks into a bucket or a rock bucket. They have different ones I've seen on Youtube but those things are $$$$. I'm just going to build something so I can pin on to a bucket in 20 min or less. Will probably only use it a couple times a year so it don't need to be a dedicated full time tool. Probably will buy a rock bucket to install it on though as it can be used for other projects. I borrow my cousins' rock bucket sometimes and its a handy tool but I end up chasing rocks instead of getting them into the bucket. If I modify something I'll try to start a thread on it.
