Cutting some rounds to take to my dad my saw started scalloping to the right toward the bottom of the cut so much that the saw was binding and stalling anyone know why and what causes this? I have a husky 350 with a 20" bar if that matters. Thanks

Your bar is wore out causing your teeth to lean.

Quick fix would be to flip your bar, but plan on buying a new one.

Thanks I do flip the bar as I heard it prolongs the life. I did notice some wobble in the chain while cutting. I guess this is due to track wear?

You might also re-sharpen the chain - It may be duller on one side than the other.

Good point, sometimes that happens with electric sharpeners too. Before I learned to hand file decently I got a few back like that from the place where I took them and it was due to their machine being out of adjustment.

Could be one of several things.

Chain duller on one side.
Rakers not set the same.
Slop in the bar
Wrong guage chain for the bar
bar top rails worn
operator error(trying to force a cut)

I would start with buying a new chain. ~$10, and it isnt like it will go to waste either. MAKE sure it is the right guage for the bar. This is the thickness of the drive link of the chain and the opening in the bar(slot).

It should be stamped on the bar:thumbsup: Most common are .043, .050, .058.

If the chain dont fix it, you have narrowed it to the bar. And for how cheap bars are for that saw, I'd just buy a new one.

If the chain DOES fix the problem, you know there are issues with your other chain and probabally need to have it sharpened.

If the chain has been overheated in the past it will not stay sharp.:)

When we sharpen chains we all have a tendency to do a better job on one side than the other and that could possibly be a problem.
The bar rails also wear unevenly because of the lopsided design of the saw which causes one guide rail to wear more than the other but this can be fixed.
This can be verified by removing the bar & chain and holding the bar up and looking at the rails. Often you can see one rail higher than the other.
If you have a belt or disk sander with a tool rest to lay the bar on first adjust the table so it is at 90 degrees to the sander than pass the bar lightly across the belt or disk in a smooth continuous motion taking light cuts this will immediately show high spots. Keep doing this until both rails are even.
You don稚 need to remove all imperfections just the high spots.
This will put your saw back on track.

Good post as I have the same problem!

Not to hijack, just curious where you buy your chain at $10??? My local place carries Oregon but they are all $25 give or take.
