Chain saw blade sharpening ?

I use the oregon mounted sharpener also. I set it so it barely grinds any new metal. I can sharpen my chains many times before i toss them.

When i built my shooting backstop of used railroad ties, i had to resharpen after every 3-4 cuts. I was able to install entire backstop using (and trashing) one chain. The difference between before and after cuts were astounding. It always cuts like factory new chain after sharpening.

On a whim and a leap of faith, I'm going to give a Timberline Sharpener a try. I went on-line and watched how it works and I think it might work pretty well. I'll let everyone know after I try it for a bit.

I have the Timberline Sharpener and it ROCKS. I bought it last year based on a friend's recommendation, and it's worked fantastically well. I used to sharpen by hand, but the Timberline does the job quicker and more accurately. I still use a round file in the field for regular touch-up, but if I hit the ground or dull it badly, I use the Timberline in the field as well. I don't know how long the sharpening face will last, but I've done 10-12 chains and can't tell a difference yet. I highly recommend it. Very well constructed, with tight tolerances and a quality finish.

Exactly how I sharpened chains before and the same way my dad always sharpened chains...but better than I could. Then I got older. Like the suburban farmer says in his post the Timberline Rocks. It is accurate and works well. I either clamp an old bar in a vice and just run a chain around it that way, or if chain is on a saw leave it on and go for it.

I found a coupon online and got a pretty good price. It is pricey but very well made. They recommend wearing gloves...I didn't the first time and boy are those little filings it throws out sharp.
