Everyone is always posting photos of chain hooks on FELs. Does anyone have a chain hook or strap holder on their back hoe bucket for lifting things. We always have them on industrial hoes at construction sites. They use the hoe to set pipe in the newly excavated ditches and move welding machines around, basically anything that they can reach with the hoe can be moved with the outriggers down. They dont carry it with the hoe. Normally they are welded on the back side high enough up to keep them out of the mud. Sometimes they will weld a hook on the inside of the bucket also to give added mobility to the lift.

Right after purchasing my mini-ex, I welded a 3/8" grab hook to the back of the bucket. It's been used extensively, especially when I removed a downed tree from my chicken run after the October 2011 snowstorm that left us withoutpower for a week.

i welded a big my on my b series kubota backhoe bucket so i can put a clevis on when needed and take it off when digging. i used a 3/4 nut and a 5/8 clevis. cost me $12 total. i also used a 3" peice of pvc 4' tall and put a peice of strap iron bolted to it and now have a cup holder. remember think outside the box. and good luck!

I think I like that nut idea. Never thought of that. Maybe go with a 1" size though so I can use a larger shackle. With that I could use a chain or a strap. Maybe get some use out of that old tow strap I've been carrying in my truck for 5 years still in the plastic wrap.
Now just have to decide where I can keep all this on the TLB so it will be handy when needed.

I add a 3/8 hook to my L39. Kubota even had it in the owners manual that the backhoe has a 1k craning rating. Not sure on the B26 you are getting. It has been very handy.

get an old military ammo box and bolt it to the tractor and they are extremely rugged, and keep most all weather out and can hold tools and straps. for most chains i use a milk crate and just put it in the front bucket so they are easy to spot, and paint a color so they are easy to spot and you know whats yours. good luck!

I've thought about welding a hook on my BH bucket!!!... Just never took the time to do it!

I can see how it would be handy with one or two welded on!!! :)

If your FEL has a large pipe across the front between the lift arms you can buy a couple of pipe plugs (with a thumbscrew in the middle and an expanding rubber ring on the edge) to seal up the pipe. Then you have a long toolbox on your FEL. The 4" size plug is about $10 at Lowe's.

I had to run about a 1" long weld bead perpendicular to the end of the pipe to get a firm fit without running out of adjustment. The weld is on the bottom so it will let water run out and the pipe to breath in case the chain or whatever is put in wet.

Oh, yes, my 12" backhoe bucket has a weld-on grab hook. May have to add one to the others. Very handy, but my M7040 has a QA boom that also does the same job quite well.

I have been thinking of adding a 3/8 hook to my backhoe bucket. Where did you all weld you hooks on the bucket?

Any pictures would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I welded a 3/8" grab hook to a 3/8" plate, then welded this plate to the back of the bucket. Have been using the bucket to position large rocks in a retaining wall I am building, and it works great. Using straps around the rocks and a chain from the straps up to the bucket. With a long rope tied to one of the straps to be able to rotate the rock from the ho seat. You can pretty much put them rocks where you want to pretty easy.... :)

I do not have a pic but I welded a hook on my friends L4400 BH and I located it nearly between the lower pin brackets where it would be out of the way.

Here is a picture of the hook I welded on an 18" BradCo bucket. You want to tuck it in where it won't be sticking out, but need to give clearance so you can put the bucket pin in all three adjustment holes....

Hi Gary

Attached is a photo of the hook I welded on all of my B26 buckets. This hook is rated at 1 ton which is more than enough for the B26. I like this hook because the safety latch is rated the same as the hook so if you are moving an object around and adjusting the curl as well you do not have to worry about the chain slipping off.

Regards,

Lauren

My bucket on my l4740 has an edge on the top backside of the bucket. The chain hook slides right on. Was going to weld on a hook but this seems to work ok. I wonder if this is bot going to damage my bucket.

That is a nice and safe hook, where did you buy it at and how much? I want to put on like that on my B26

I also like the idea for the welded on nut for fastening on shackes or even get one of the chain hooks made with a pin on that would fit thru it. Only problem I see with that is keeping up with the loose parts.

Thanks for sharing!
