I have read over the past months that a number of you PT owners bought a wrench to tighten the center pivot nut.
Well I thought this over and ended up buying a 1 13/16 wrench on EBay about 6 months ago, put it aside and never gave it much more thought.
Today was a nice day out so I rummaged around and found it and tightened the center nut.
Boy, was I ever surprised at how lose it was. I did at least 10 half turns until it was tight.
Sure glad I bought than wrench. By the way, I paid $9.99 for the wrench and $12.00 for shipping.

When I took the training class at Power Trac, they told me to tighten it every 8 hours of use, and grease at the same time. I found that it has moved less as time goes on, but the first few times I got some movement.

We have a local "Surplus City" store that has the 1 13/16 wrench in stock. Just picked one up for $17.32 including the usual donation to the governor.....now the biggest wrench I own! If anyone is interested in obtaining one feel free to PM me and I'll see what it will cost to ship it to you....not trying to make any $$ here just trying to get this wrench to those that need one at a reasonable price. I was waiting to see what EBay would have but seems I'm slow at pulling the trigger at a decent price. It's a combination "drop forged" wrench made by "Thorsen"..although sticker says it's a Mills Fleet Farm? Of course, it's made in Taiwan.

I checked with my local tool store and a 1 13/16 wrench was pretty pricey and not carried in the cheep brands. There is available (under $20, I don't remember exactly) a box-end wrench in the cheep line that is 46mm, which I was assured will work exactly. They've ordered it and I'll verify their promise once I receive it.

I have seen them at Northern for around $20. I don't think you are going to be able to break even a cheap wrench of this size.

I think the one I got what would be classified in the "cheap" quality category and it's a pretty heavy/thick wrench. Used it for the first time this week on that nut and it went around almost a full turn after apprx 250 hours. Looks like it will be part of my pre-start check up from now on.

I think many people are missing an important maintenance item by not tightening this every eight hours of use. When it has slop there is a lot more wear in the coupling. When I tighten it I rarely get an eigth of a turn. Probably not an eigth of a turn in the past year. If you got a full turn in a year, then that is more wear than I got in 5 years. Keep this thing tight. You don't want to have to replace that joint. Somebody correct me if I am wrong on this.

BobRip has a 422, so apparently they are...

The 46mm I mentioned works great but it ended up being almost $30 out the door. Finally got it last week.

I got almost a full turn easily on my 422 nut.

It's a 1 and 13/16 on my 1430 as well. Initially i thought terry had said a 1 and 15/16 wrench but when i picked that wrench up it was too big. I then got the 1 and 13/16 wrench from Boston Industrial Tools part #19563 for around $12.50 or so phone # is 1-781-335-8829

Received my order. Man, now that's a wrench! Much larger than I was anticipating. Got about a turn and a half on the nut.
