Cell Phone Telemarketers

I've had good luck with the land line do-not-call option too, it really stopped the solicitains, which were mostly from phone companies!

Telemarketers do not need a directory. They can just run through the list of all combinations for each prefix.

and then remove all the numbers that are in the do not call list?
In the FAQ on the donotcall.gov site (click here ) "A consumer who receives a telemarketing call despite being on the registry will be able to file a complaint with the FTC, either online or by calling a toll-free number. Violators could be fined up to $11,000 per incident."

Dargo

Thanks for the reminder. I put mine and my wife's cell phones on the list. We only have a small number of minutes since we use them only for essential or emergency calling. We could operate easily with prepaid except for the inconvience.

Thanks Phil, checking Snopes is always worthwhile. I've lost count of the number of "sky is falling" emails I have received from well meaning friends, which usually turn out be hokum. Since I've started replying to them with a link to the Snopes site, I don't seem to get as many as I used to. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Yes, I agree about lots of the emails I get. I love the one about sending some email to everyone you know and Bill Gates will send you a small fortune! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

However, when a documented U.S. Government website contradicts the "Snopes" site, I have to side with the U.S. Government. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif I'll believe "Snopes" over the government when it starts making laws, interpreting laws, and enforcing laws that pertain to all states, and protects our country and allows us the privilege to believe what we want.

They are not opening up telemarketing to cell phones. You do not need to sign your cell phone up for the do not call list. I work for a cell phone co. now and they just sent us a big packet on this rumore going around last month. My cell is not reg. because no one is going to call it for marketing purposes. **** even your creditor are not allowed to call your cell phone unless you have given express permission to call your cell phone.

I like Missouri's no call list better. The telemarketers have to buy the list from the state at $600.00 a year so they know who not to call. Miss Cleo didn't have the list and it cost her $75K.
There is also legislation in the process that would add business and personal cell phones to the list.

Boy, Ain't that the truth...I used to get so many chain emails and the sky is falling junk and we can thank Snopes for setting them straight. It really takes the fun out of it for them. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
