My wife has a Samsung (alltel) brand phone which has worked without problems for a while now. Just last week she noticed her phone shut itself off because the battery went dead after being fully charged and not used that much.. Normally the battery will power the phone for several days with normal usage.. It continues to drain the battery and shut itself off if she doenst plug it in nightly

I know this sounds like a battery problem - BUT somehow the phone also erased the micro SC and it cant be reformatted (reformat fails)..

Is the shutting down a battery or phone problem? Is the memory card failure separate from the phone/battery problem OR could one cause the other..

any advise welcome

Brian,

Does the battery die quickly if the MicroSC card is removed? If it doesn't then the MicroSC card has an internal short and needs to be turfed (doubtful). If it does die quickly, without the card, the battery needs replacing.

Usually when you can't reformat an SC card the internal logic has been scrambled by an electronic glitch. IE:a writing a file to the card and the power dies.

You might try putting the Micro SC card in the SC slot (with the proper adaptor) in a computer while the computer is off. Then turn the computer on and attempt a reformat - this sometimes works with a scrambled card.
