Stumpy, Good as far as you went but what about:

Green part = leaves/needles
Little round parts = berries/cones
Cloud of dust part = pollen
Really dirty part = roots ;) ;)

So far the most fun I have had with a "cedar" tree was cutting one down and having its near neighbor fall on me. I was helping a friend clear out some cedars in his pasture and he or his son had cut one of a close pair of cedars and left it standing as if it had not been cut, supported by the one I cut. Not much damage, just a minor scratch. I was pinned to the ground. My hard hat took the hit. It did knock my glasses off and it took me 3-4 min to extricate myself from its embrace. Only my pride suffered for my not having noticed the saw dust at the base of the neighbor tree.

Thanks for all the input guys. I built a split rail a couple of years ago. but the posts I used a buddy gave them to me and were all heartwood (red stuff) with with very little pulp (white stuff). ;) I know cedar posts seem to last forever around here but I had never used any of the smaller ones. Again thanks. It probably saved me alot of work in a few years. I will be the crochety old guy ten years from now so that saves alot of grumping later on to. :) Thanks

Jamie
