CC 1040

I am looking at the 1040 and for the price it seems like a good mower. What is holding me back on this purchase is the Kohlerｮ Courageｮ single-cylinder 19 hp engine. Should I be concern about this engine?

there's been a report now and then of probs with that engine - most seem to feel it's "brother" - the 20 hp twin - is better.

But, you may want to seriously chk out the tranny in that 1040 - if it is a CVS type (not hydrostatic), proceed with caution, imho.

I really did like the set up of the cc as in 12" turning radius and cast front end. but the engine and tranny was a no go. i would have gotten a 1042 but 1045 was the next model locally sold. What I did get was an Ariens 20hp vtwin b&s with hydro trans.

I took delivery of my 1040 on Monday the 4th. Made all of the adjustments the manual said to make added fresh gas and mowed the lawn. I am very impressed with this machine of course I am used to the 21" Honda push mower. Overall I am happy with my choice only time will tell. I do maintain my equipment ( the wife says I am OCD about it ) look forward to years of service and years of being on the forum.
