Caution. Cotter pins.

Was mowing with the 2520 and notice that the left hand side of the deck dropped. :shocked: so I stopped the deck and the 2520 and get off and start looking, go to the back, and the adjusting arm is still on the 3pt but all bent. Look underneath and the cotter pin and linch pin are missing. So down the road i go to Farm & Fleet to get a new linch pin. Banged out the adjusting arm and put it back together. Called the dealer and he said probably under warranty. So make sure that everyone checks that. :2cents::smiley_aafz:

Spare lynch pins are a must have. I can lay a lynch pin down while changing implements and the darn things will grow feet never to be seen again.

I think they were 5/8? 2 inch long? F&F only had them in 3 inch, but I could use the clip pins on them, instead of cotter pins. Makes it easier to use and I feel safer. Id take pics, but its at the farm.:thumbsup:

I noticed those when I removed my linkage for the first time. If I remember, they were way too small for the hole in the pin. After only one summer of mowing they were already wearing badly. I have 3/16" dia. hairpins in there now.:thumbsup:

Somebody is going and have to take a picture.... I went and looked at mine today and can't figure out which pins they are. There are a lot of them!!!:confused2:

My old JD mower does this too... The cotter pins must be checked and replaced. I usually do it when I sharpen or change the blades.

Hey Tom,I took some photos of what I did to mine. I used hairpins instead of cotter pins. I was a bit hesitant about using those,because of the possibility of them being knocked off by something. So far so good,I haven't had any problems. If you decide to use hairpins,just make sure they fit pretty tight.

I was wrong on the size. The large ones on the turnbuckles are 1/8". Not absolutely sure on the spacer rod between the two arms,but I think those pins are 1/16" or 3/32". I also put washers wherever there seemed to be too much play. IMO,keeping everything tight will lessen the wear factor.:thumbsup:

That works thanks!!! Another question about using the 3pt??? Is there a way to remove or tie up the mower linkage? While out getting logs today I really didn't like putting them on the ground even though they are raised up when I lift the 3pt, just curious..... Thanks!

JD makes a lockup kit,but alot of guys just tie them up with some decent zip ties.
