Never use painting caulk to attempt to seal flashing.

Just to be clear -- the DAP Alex Plus caulk is not painter's caulk -- it's a silicone that adheres to wood, metal, plastic, tile, etc. I've used it on a lot of things over the years and it's a good general purpose caulk. It probably would have worked fine here if it wasn't for rain and cold temps -- it just took too long to setup in this case.

I have also used DAP's painter's caulk for interior trim, and it's good stuff. But that definitely would not be usable outdoors or on metals.
