CAT Pull Type Grader Action Pics

Got to spend a couple hours with my Son using our CAT Model 35 Pull Type Grader. I was just the "mule" driver. Danny was the blade operator. Pretty amazing what these old machines will do. We started with some gravel road maintenance to let him get used to the controls.

Next we moved onto dirt road shaping. That's where this old Grader shines. I quit guiding Danny by driving in the correct lane. I started driving in the middle of the roadway and let him learn how to steer the grader himself.

All in all, it was a good time for Father/Son bonding and getting a taste of roadbuilding history.

Don't know where that road is going, but it sure looks pretty today. Some days it would look better that the cement I 35.

Now that is right up my alley. It sure does a good job, and it didn't take your son long to get the hang of it.

I run a new JD 770G grader. I'm impressed at the versatility of this old grader using simple mechanics with good design. For example, the same wheel angles the blade and side shifts the table depending on pushing the wheel forward to engage cogs or pulling it rearward to engage different cogs. Also impressed by the concept of wheelbase versus blade position is still in use today.
